Yes, there's an alternative solution for #8.
In #10 there's set up for white. Look at the name of chapter. "Puzzle #10 - WHITE TO MOVE".
in #4 for beginners, it's impossible for white to get 2 dark bishops unless they decide to promote to bishop for some reason.
