h6 prevents g5 temporarily, but after Rg1 and h4-g5, it cannot be prevented forever. In the meantime, black will play actively in the center so as to "refute" white's g4 move.

The Keres attack has long been considered the acid test against the Scheveningen since the 1970s. In fact, the idea of quickly playing g4-g5 to dislodge the f6-knight and begin a kingside assault has led some players at the top level to drop this line as black entirely.
