You can get away with it against unprepared players below 2400 or so FIDE imo. At 2400+ FIDE or if the opponent prepared with the engine, you're likely to have problems in classical with 3...Qe5
#4 Sort of like Rapport maybe? He's mentioned before that he breezed through to GM playing random openings, some of his early career games are indeed simple sidelines where he ended up converting. He doesn't elaborate much though or if he was coached.

Do you think that's a reasonable approach to otb then. Choosing less memory based lines like the one you're suggesting in Qe5.

It feels like we compartmentalize study of middlegames, endings and tactics but somehow it doesn't all come together in a game. How would this idea fare any better to the average player?
