How to differentiate between trolling and sacrifice?

I recommend acting with intelligence, wisdom, and common sense to discern the best action for each particular situation, but after reading your posts I'm not ready to say that you're full of those three. A good next step may be to make mistakes and learn from them; figure out what works for you and what it costs and settle for something that gives you balance and stability.

Finally, someone who wants to discuss philosophy. Let's start with one of the three things that you mentioned. What would you like to discuss intelligence, wisdom or common sense?

Oh so it seems you are thinking that by ignoring this you will appear intelligent, wise and one with common sense in your own mind. Good job being the top 0.0000000001% in these three traits.
You cannot report someone for making perfectly legal moves that you, for whatever reason, did not like. Well, you can, but your report will be ignored. And if you do it often, you'll probably be flagged as someone who makes frivolous reports and may even be sanctioned.

Yes, making certain moves may be considered as trolling, but it is not against the rules. E.g. the Bongcloud opening is widely regarded as a troll opening, but nobody has ever been banned or suspended for playing it. Magnus Carlsen is known for playing garbage openings in order to troll his opponents, he once played an entire online tournament using a certain bad opening (if I am not mistaken it was in a titled Tuesday).

It's astonishing that someone would want to report their opponent for nothing more than playing according to the rules but in a way they did not like.

Finally, an answer that makes sense. Thanks.

It sometimes becomes very difficult for me when someone sacrifices a piece. Their intentions are to make fun of me because I am not very good at chess. Can they beat me piece by piece, or is it a genuine sacrifice?

Funny how you said, ''I dont understand if they sacrifice they're piece to make fun of me.'' Lol
I mean, basically, good players often dont underestimate they're opponents, nor do they make sacrifices to make fun of them. Besides, you should try to take advantage of the sacrifice if there are no upcoming threats. Just calculate for 3 or 4 moves forward and dont be afraid to take the piece for no reason
What a weird thread.

Someones makes a piece sacrifice that turns out to be incorrect, the opponent wins and accuses the other side if trolling. Insane!

Or requesting that the other side makes the absolute best moves to play the fastest win possible. Insane!

And I won't go into the other things, like demanding that the other side swiftly resigns in a clearly timed tournament.

Basically nothing mentioned in this thread would qualify as trolling. If you want to win, checkmate your opponent. The moves of of your opponent are none of your business. If they don't win fast enough, smash the resign button.

Got it. So nothing counts as trolling, when it comes to making moves. That's a logical answer. People were giving all sorts of examples that one is trolling and other is not. I can do whatever I want with my pieces and the +15 seconds button. Thanks.
Indeed.

Though I suggest to do reasonable things both with pieces and the add time button. The only one you can really hurt with stupid decisions is yourself, and you'd be wasting your energy and life time. :-)

I think most respondents in this topic, which I have been watching passively, were giving you answers along those same lines, so some acknowledgement of everyone else might be in order. The difficulty may have been mutual misunderstanding.
assume everything is a sacrifice so you can't be trolled -_-
