Desktop instructions
Step 1: Copy an image to your clipboard (Ctrl-C)
Step 2: Go to imgur.com in your browser. No need to log in, no need to click anything.
Step 3: Paste (Ctrl-V)
Step 4: Important! Ignore everything on the page that appears. Just right click on your image and select "Copy image link"/"Copy image address". DO NOT CLICK THEIR COPY LINK BUTTON! Use the context menu.
Step 5: Go to lichess forums and paste (Ctrl-V).
The link that appears in the text of your post will have a file extension (.jpg, .png, .webp) at the end. If it does not, you did something wrong and it won't work. Go back to step 1.
Once you submit your post with a proper link, you should see the actual image replace the link.
